What is ART?

ART is hands-on, movement-based treatment specifically designed to quickly reduce pain and restore function. Whether you’ve got a minor strain or a complex injury, ART gets you back to work and back to play faster and more effectively than conventional therapy methods. For more information about ART, you can visit their official website at activerelease.com.

“Active Release Techniques® is the global leader in non-invasive soft-tissue and nerve treatment, including treatment of strains, sprains, and other musculoskeletal disorders.”

Why ART?

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are injuries or disorders of the muscles, tendons, nerves, joints, cartilage and supporting structures of the upper and lower limbs, neck and lower back. They are caused, precipitated or exacerbated by sudden exertion or prolonged exposure to physical factors such as repetition, force, vibration or awkward posture.

Our musculoskeletal systems are designed for movement, and we have multiple structures that must work together in order to create this movement in the most precise and efficient way.  When these systems and structures are not working properly the result is typically pain.

ART Certified Providers™ utilize a hands-on diagnostic process, palpating affected areas in order to pinpoint the damaged and inflamed tissue. ART treatment works by releasing muscles, ligaments, tendons and fascia that no longer function due to overuse or injury.

With over a decade of being Full Body Active Release Techniques® (ART) Certified and part of the Elite Provider Network within ART, Dr. Alex Aten has undergone hundreds of hours in more advanced training and testing for this leading technique. With this level of training, Dr. Aten can efficiently:

  • Determine specific tissues generating pain and altered movement
  • Determine actual root cause instead of concentrating exclusively on the location of pain
  • Accurately locate each of the 450 structures that can be treated
  • Deliver effective treatment to those structures

Each treatment is customized specifically for the individual patient based on their specific needs and goals.

Common Conditions Treated By ART

ART treatment is effective against signs and symptoms of muscle and nerve dysfunction – sometimes referred to as soft-tissue conditions or MSDs – including tightness, pain, tingling, inflammation, restricted range of motion, muscle ache, and related symptoms.
